About Us
There is nothing typical about Haitianista! For one, we promise to make you a conscionable fashionista. For another, we are committed to helping ease the many talented Haitian artists and artisans out of poverty! Bold, we know. But only by being bold can we fulfill our mission to make Haitian art, fashion and design accessible, from New York to New Zealand; from London to Dubai and all points in between. You can now be a Haitianista, without leaving the comfort of your home.
Why Haitianista?
Well, like most of the world, we wanted to help post-earthquake Haiti. We recognized the limitations of donations as it cultivates dependence, and therefore we wanted something that reaches beyond, breeds strength. So we looked for inspiration in the people: the incredible artists and artisans to fuel our approach, and in doing so, create an accessible global marketplace for Haitian goods!
By providing a virtual store, we put beautiful, amazing handmade Haitian pieces at your fingertips–with a simple click of the mouse. Yes, we give a hand up–not a hand out! So rest assured, your purchases have real power. They can literally change lives! And, Oh So Green
Who says fashion has no conscience? Well, they have not met our dynamic group of artisans who use Mother Nature as their muse. An overwhelming majority of pieces are literally made from nature. From cow horns (no two alike) to beads are manipulated into some of the most dazzling, bold and unique rings, bracelets, bangles, and pendants. Then there are the hand- beaded clutches and bags made of recycled materials. Stones sculpted to rock your decor. And oh yes, let’s not forget the clothes or the hand painted knick knacks to make yours the best house on the block. Did we say all handmade in Haiti!
The Team
If you are only as good as your team, we will be great! We are a community of men and women; of friends and family! We are Haitianistas volunteering time and unconditional support. From modeling, to merchandise review, to guest blogging. Together we are a conduit for self- sufficiency, self-awareness and self-empowerment for a variety of talented Haitians!
